Play for Babies Heavily Mouthing 👅 Do you have a baby who is mouthing everything they can get their hands on? 😛 Mouthing typically peaks around 6 to 9 months and declines between 10 and 16 months. It can be hard to think of ways to play when everything goes straight into baby’s mouth! It is developmentally appropriate and helps them learn and explore, but can be taxing as a parent or caregiver.
You can always search this blog by age, check out my Instagram story highlights, and check out the Baby Play Hacks iPhone app. But here are some general ideas for supervised play for babies who are mouthing:

Find clean kitchen items like silicone baking cups, straws and ice trays, wooden spatulas, and plastic measuring cups
Collect large cloth scraps from old clothing, different textures and colors will be the most interesting, and put them in a basket or in front of baby during tummy time to explore

Create your own bean bags with long, clean socks and dry lentils, black beans, or barley. Pour the dry lentils into a sock until the desired size (do not overfill so that the fabric is stretching too thin) and tie it off tightly above the contents. If desired double up on socks 🧦. Cut the sock or socks and done! Supervise and retighten the knot if necessary.

Create a basket of clean balls like whiffle balls, tennis balls 🎾, and wool dryer balls
Stack plastic cups for baby to enjoy knocking down.
