Taste-Safe Play Dough

Taste-Safe Play Dough 😜 Make your own taste-safe play dough for baby to smash! Play dough is fun to introduce around a year old and up. πŸ™ŒπŸΌ This recipe is so easy and will last a long time.
You will need:
-1 cup of all-purpose flour
-1/2 cup salt
-1 tbsp cream of tartar
-1 tbsp vegetable oil -1 cup boiling water
-food coloring (if desired)

Lay a cup of all-purpose flour out on a pan and bake at 350 degrees for five minutes. ⏲ Once the flour has cooled, mix it with 1/2 cup of salt, and 1 tbsp cream of tartar. πŸ₯„Then add 1 tbsp of vegetable oil and 1 cup of boiling water. If you are dying the dough, add a couple drops of food coloring in with the water before adding it into the bowl. Mix and knead, adding more flour slowly if the dough is too sticky. Store in the refrigerator or at room temperature in a ziplock bag with the air let out.

If baby is not mouthing the dough, it should last for months. This dough is very salty, which helps it last but also deters baby from licking it. 🀞🏼 If baby is mouthing, use your own discretion for how long to keep the dough, and check for rancid smell or mold. Please know that while it is safe to lick, it is not safe to eat in large quantities (it is not edible-please do not allow your child to eat it). A fun way to play is to use the play dough at the table or on a baking pan on the floor. Make balls and snakes with baby and let her squish them. πŸ‘‡πŸΌ Make imprints in the dough with objects and toys. This is a great form of tactile sensory play, and I use our dough frequently when nothing else is keeping Norah’s attention.
